Former Newburgh Comptroller Avoids Jail Time For Stealing From City

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The City of Newburgh's former comptroller won't spend any time in jail for stealing from the city after receiving a conditional discharge on Thursday, according to the Times Herald-Record.

John Aber, 49, pleaded guilty to stealing more than $9,000 from Newburgh's boat launch fees. Abner's sentencing requires him to repay the full amount stolen and remain arrest free for one year, the Record said.
